The shop has become well-known for its dairy-free and gluten-free vegan chocolates, homemade non-dairy cheeses, and soft serve. In fact, the soft serve was voted the best in Connecticut by Patch!
Q: How long have you been in the chocolate business?
A: It’s been nine years. Before starting the store and website, I took an entire year o to learn everything I could at a New York chocolate shop. Then, I went to Princeton, New Jersey to learn about water activity, molding, bacteria, and other nuances of the trade. After that, I took several classes from my favorite chocolatier in Belgium.
Q: How did you start thinking “chocolate?”
A: I took care of my aunt who had Alzheimer’s. When she passed away, my Aunt Gemma, a nun in Quebec City, gave me some chocolate recipes that my grandmother and I had made up together. She said, “Your grandmother would want you to have these.” I looked at them and said, “This is Divine!” Then, my sister handed me a cross and said, “It looks like you’ve got divine treasures on your hands!” I used that name to create my LLC, and then started to modify the recipes to meet my health requirements, eliminating gluten, corn syrup, trans fats, dairy, and other elements.
Q: Had you ever thought about opening a chocolate shop before discovering those old recipes?
A: No. I really do love chocolates, however it’s not just the love of chocolate that has taken me this far. Making chocolates reminds me of my grandmother in Quebec, and I adored her—I thought she was a saint that walked on this earth. I always felt close to her through chocolates. My desire is that everyone who experiences our treats will feel the generation of love that goes into every piece.
